报告主题: Rational design of functional complex fluids, soft materials and their industrial applications
报告人:Dr. Dongcui Li(李东翠) Research Development, Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc

Biography:(报告人简介)
Dongcui Li received her Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering from Zhejiang University in 2009, and Ph. D. in 2013 from University of Delaware under the direction of Prof. Norman J. Wagner. Dr. Li is currently a senior scientist at Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc. since 2013 and leads an active research group with focus on the new technology innovations and development. Her research interests include the thermodynamic, rheology and microstructure of complex fluids and soft matters including polyelectrolyte, surfactant, microgels, biopolymers and structured block co-polymers in aqueous and ionic liquids. Dr Li has successfully developed and launched numerous commercial products for personal health care industries and own four patents. She has authored and co-authored eight journal articles including Journal of American Chemical Society, macromolecules and Langmuir, etc. She has been recognized with 2013 ACS Excellence In Graduate Polymer Research Award and her work was highlighted by JACS spotlight and endorsed as the front cover. Dr. Li also actively serve on the peer-review board for numerous journals including European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, European Polymer Journal, Journal of rheology and Materials Science and Engineering B, etc

Abstract:(报告简述)
Engineering technologically useful, high performance materials requires nanoscale and/or molecular control of their microstructures and properties. My research focuses on developing a fundamental understanding of the molecular interactions and nanoscale structures of complex materials, which falls under the broader disciplines of rheology, molecular thermodynamics and structure-property relationship for complex fluids and soft matters. Three systems are discussed in this talk. The first case focuses on understanding how the molecular associations and physical properties of polyelectrolyte-surfactant mixtures depend on the molecular composition. The research shows new"predictive"insights and guidance for rationally formulating polyelectrolyte-surfactant complexes for consumer products and biomedicines. The second case focuses on the self-assembly of surfactant or block copolymers in"green solvent " ionic liquids. This work studies the molecular origins of the self-assembled nano- or micro structures in ionic liquids, targeting for drug delivery. The last case studies the design of novel surface self-crosslinked microgels to create yield stress fluids that are widely used in industry as rheology modifiers. The work also shows how to direct molecular and nanoscale self-assembly as a route to engineering novel materials with pioneering neutron scattering methods for probing nanoscale material structures
